ISfTeH endorses Telehealth Certification Institute training programs

The ISfTeH is pleased to announce the endorsement of the following two courses, provided by the Telehealth Certification Institute:

The ISfTeH supports quality educational and training programs by reviewing and endorsing the programs' content and faculty. Proper education and training are essential to assure good knowledge and expertise in telemedicine/telehealth and digital health topics and to assure quality medical and health service provision.

The TeleMental Health Training Certificate Program (THTC) provides evidence-based, advanced, and comprehensive training that prepares clinicians to offer behavioral health services while in a different location than the client through the use of technology. There are several other terms used for TeleMental Health such as E-Psychology, Technology-Assisted Social Work, Web-Based, Virtual, Distance Counseling, Telebehavioral Health, Telehealth, TeleMedicine, Online Counseling, Skype Counseling, and Tele-Therapy. The THTC program is for any behavioral health professional, including but not limited to, counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, physicians, nurses, and chaplains. Clinicians who have earned the THTC take special consideration of their clients' privacy as it relates to the use of technology, and the needed effort to ensure that they remain up-to-date on the best practices of providing services remotely. The course includes an introduction to telemental health, legal, ethical and clinical aspects, screening and emergency management planning, clinical skills of video sessions and phone therapy, and cultural competence and telehealth. Also included with this program is the THTC Review and Study Guide, a comprehensive 16 chapter/200 page ebook that covers all aspects of the program. This program consists of 15.5 hours of video content. Participants access and complete this training at their own pace. Dates may be scheduled upon request for Live Webinar or Live In Person sessions.

The TeleStroke Facilitator Certificate Training Program is a one-hour certification course which provides a lecture and clinical demonstration of the skills needed to confidently and correctly assist a vascular neurologist with a telestroke consultation with a patient. The learning objectives for TeleStroke Facilitator Certificate Training Program are to formulate an accurate algorithm for the diagnosis of a patient with cerebral ischemic stroke, accurately identify symptoms that could correlate with ischemic stroke, and utilize appropriate patient maneuvering techniques to enhance a telestroke encounter, and apply the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale so that patients are treated efficiently and correctly in an effort to minimize morbidity and mortality.

These courses are offered by ISfTeH member, the Telehealth Certification Institute (TCI), who deliver comprehensive telehealth training and consultation services to a global network of healthcare organizations and professionals. TCI provides healthcare organizations and clinicians with the ethical, legal, technological, and clinical framework for conducting telehealth sessions effectively. Through TCI’s online CE marketplace of over 180 courses (including the popular TeleMental Health Training Certificate program), over 40,000 providers have been trained on essential telehealth competencies.

For more information about these courses, click the above links, or contact info@isfteh.org and we will connect you with the Telehealth Certification Institute. For additional information about the ISfTeH Education Program and the endorsement of courses and training programs, also contact us at info@isfteh.org.

Land-based broadcasting stations are exclusively used (no satellites, cell phone, internet, TV). The Titus unit is an ICT advanced product enabling the broadcast across-the-world of diversified contents (*) in multiple languages over very vast areas (million+ square kilometers) where communication infrastructures are poorly/not developed or simply unaffordable. For example, most of the West Africa population can receive freely sound, images and videos on a solar-powered TV connected to a Titus receiver as groups in a class room-like environment or individually on a Titus unit. Titus-SDR is in position of delivering promptly a comprehensive transmitter-receivers package for the broadcast of NGO-chosen eHealth programs over selected vast geographical areas. • eConsultation is increasingly used in response to Covid-19 challenges. In Estonia, eConsultation gives primary care doctors an opportunity to consult with a specialist in diagnosing and treatment process since 2013. Requirements for eConsultation with 21 specialists (started with two specialists in 2013) have been agreed between family doctors and specialist's organisations – objectives and structure of the request, reply options and obligations. Specialists can confirm the diagnosis and treatment, request for additional information/tests or propose an appointment for the patient in the hospital. The patient sees the consultation process in the patient portal. In 2019 there were 27491 consultations by 1060 family doctors. Both GPs and specialists have to agree on terminology, content and format. Access to databanks – picture bank that includes ECG guarantees quality of the consultation. Also, it allows specialists to identify these patients who urgently need a specialist appointment. Access to patient digital health record allows specialist consulting with medical history and previous tests and medication. For more info, contact Terje Peetso of the North Estonia Medical Centre.
  • The Evidence Base for Telehealth: Reassurance in the Face of Rapid Expansion During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A White Paper Commentary on an AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) Evidence Report. It is with deep grief that we inform you about the tragic demise of Dr. David Gasparyan – Head of Department of Gynecology at the Medical Center "Kanaker-Zeitoun," Founding Board Member of the Armenian Association of Telemedicine.

He obtained his degree in medicine at the Yerevan State Medical University in 1994; he did his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Research Center of Maternal and Child Health Protection in Yerevan, Armenia, and qualified as specialist in 1997. In 1999-2002 he was research fellow at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the National Institute of Health, and received a PhD degree in 2002. He practiced Obstetrics, Maternal Care and Surgical Gynecology at several institutions, including service as Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Nairi hospital (1999-2004). Since June 2004 he has worked as the Head of Department of Gynecology at Medical Center “Kanaker-Zeytun” in Yerevan, Armenia.

Dr. Gasparyan participated in numerous training courses, CME activities and research meetings in Armenia, Russia and European countries, including several longer term visits to University Hospitals in Berlin (Charite) and Cologne. He was member to the National Association of Gynecologic Endoscopy of Russian Federation, Armenian Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, National Association of Health Managers of Armenia.

In 2008 Dr. Gasparyan with his colleagues co-founded Armenian Association of Telemedicine (AATM), and for the subsequent years provided his invaluable input as telehealth pioneer in Armenia, serving as AATM General Secretary and Treasurer.

In the face of Dr. Gasparyan healthcare in Armenia has lost an outstanding representative; his patients and colleagues, peers, seniors and juniors – a talented and sensitive Physician, Fellow, Teacher and Student; his mourning family, relatives and friends – a perfect Son, Husband, Father, Brother and Friend; and all those who had the honor to know him – simply а fine and bright person, a Man of rare qualities.

Dear David, you are with us, in our souls and our hearts - forever!

The service will be held today, on May 14th, starting at 6 pm in the church of St. Hovhannes (Proshyan St.); the funeral ceremony will start on Tuesday, May 15th, 2 PM from the above church.
